What is it about?

To the outside world, Hanabi Yasuraoka and Mugi Awaya are the perfect couple. But in reality, they just share the same secret pain: they are both in love with other people they cannot be with.

Hanabi has loved her childhood friend and neighbor Narumi Kanai for as long as she can remember, so she is elated to discover that he is her new homeroom teacher. However, Narumi is soon noticed by the music teacher, Akane Minagawa, and a relationship begins to blossom between them, much to Hanabi’s dismay.

Mugi was tutored by Akane in middle school, and has been in love with her since then. Through a chance meeting in the hallway, he encounters Hanabi. As these two lonely souls spend more time together, they decide to use each other as a substitute for the one they truly love, sharing physical intimacy with one another in order to stave off their loneliness.

What did I think?

This anime started of kinda intriguing. I liked the plot, two people using each other because they can’t be with the people they really loved. It isn’t a plot that anime has turned in a cliché yet so I was curious to see how it turned out. The fact that some parts are a little steamy only made the anime that more fascinating to me.

That said, after episode four or so it seemed like the storytellers forgot what the story was about. They introduced all kinds of different characters that took the attention of the main characters. Which could have been a good thing if they weren’t all kinda pushy and annoying. Even the main characters seemed to forget that they were actually supposed to be in love with someone.

At the end they went back to the original story, but by that time the main characters had whined and complained so much that I couldn’t relate to them anymore. I have watched it all the way through and I still couldn’t tell you if this anime has a happy ending or not. They just made it overly complicated resulting in an anime with a lot of potential that just turned out pretty to be boring.

  1. I enjoyed it quite a bit, despite the teacher-student sex relationship. I thought it was well done and handled seriously and not in an ecchi sort of way. I considered it a happy ending for some and a “positive” ending for those who didn’t exactly end up happy. Did a blog of my own about it.
